Children of the Mekong (“COTM”) is a charity registered with the UK Charity Commission (No.1116375). COTM works with poor communities in Southeast Asia to improve the quality and accessibility of education. It is the UK branch of “Enfants du Mekong” (“EDM”) a French NGO founded in Laos in 1958.
COTM supports children’s education in 3 ways:
- With programmes allowing individual child sponsorship: European based sponsors finance the education of children in need in 6 countries.
- By running education centres and foster houses: to give access to quality education to underprivileged children and provide orphans and children with a safe environment.
- By implementing development programmes: to improve the children’s environment so they can live and study in good conditions (e.g. building of schools, toilets…).
